JICA

Project Details and Scope of Work

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) aims to maximize development impacts and outcomes by proactively working with partner governments and other stakeholders. The office space needed to reflect the prolific work done by the company, while incorporating the beauty of Japan through modern interior design inspiration.

The JICA Head Office is spread across 10,600 square feet on Park Street, Colombo 2. The space represents a harmonic combination of biophilic architecture and Japanese cultural elements. The interior encompasses elements of oak wood, subtle paint hues, and fabric lanterns, resulting in a modern yet culturally centered space. Red is a bold colour that could easily overpower a space, so it was strategically incorporated in the form of boardroom chairs and common area cushions. The cushions being red and circular in shape is an understated ode to JICA’s brand logo.

The multipurpose area at the core of the design functions as a bustling hub for social connection, relaxation, and live entertainment. It embraces convenience, community, and visual joy, elevating the JICA Head Office beyond a workspace into an immersive experience that fosters cooperation, creativity, and well-being, leaving a lasting beneficial impact on work and personal life. The greenery set against the grey wall and grey furniture is yet another conscious effort at subtlety and warmth. The overall design aims to improve employee well-being and job satisfaction while honoring JICA’s 7-decade-long history.
