The Grind Coffee House

Grind is a specialty coffee bar and eatery, serving espresso, v60 filter, and cold brew coffee. The extensive food selection is spread across the breakfast menu and evening menu. Offering breakfast favourites like avocado on toast, open sourdough sandwiches, homemade granola, and superfood bowls. The heavier mains from the evening menu include interestingly mouthwatering combinations such as gochujang chicken mac & cheese, curry butter seafood pasta, and tofu bowls. Centrally located at Access Towers 2, down Dawson Street, Grind is one of Colombo’s most highly rated cafes. This space is a favourite amongst locals and tourists alike.

As this café is based on the ground floor of a corporate tower, the interiors had to be adapted to the building’s architectural design. Spanning 1500 square feet, it is the first space upon entering the premises. Hence a seamless design incorporation was paramount. The airy high ceiling allowed intricate wooden booths to be created against the glass, these little areas exude warmth and comfort while offering customers a private reprieve amidst the buzzing café. These booths also double down as an entrance design element that frames the entire café.

Dark green statement granite as table tops adds a touch of colour without overpowering the building’s aesthetic. Green has also been used for the main café counter and backsplash, seamlessly adding nuanced detail through texture. The furniture and light fixtures have been thoughtfully curated to tie the entire design concept together.
